In 1984 a Milan Poison Control Centre reported 32 patients with severe neurological side-effects following an overdose of zipeprol, the cough suppressant.(1) Symptoms included seizures and coma, and the Centre stated that "Zipeprol should be much more strictly controlled..." Animal tests had given no warning of severe neurological problems despite the use of higher doses.(2)
